How Much Solar Can You Install?

In Australia, there are three main types of solar setups: on-grid, hybrid, and off-grid. Each has its own advantages depending on your location, lifestyle, and energy goals.
If you’re thinking about going solar, one of the first questions you’ll face is “Which solar system is best for my home?”

Why More Australians Are Choosing Hybrid Solar
Currently, the NSW Home Battery Scheme cannot be combined with the Federal Battery Rebate, and there is no state rebate available in Queensland. However, you can claim both the Federal Battery Rebate and the South Australian Government’s Home Battery Scheme rebate, as well as rebates available in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
If you already have solar panels, you can still take advantage of the Federal Battery Rebate. The rebate applies to the installation of a battery system, whether or not you currently have solar panels in place.
No, joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is not a requirement to qualify for the Federal Battery Rebate. However, if you are part of a VPP, you may be eligible for additional benefits.
The installation usually takes a full day. We ask that you be home at the start of the day so we can go over the panel and inverter placement. After that, you’re welcome to go to work or relax at home with our friendly installation team.
If you experience any issues with your system, reach out to Powered by Solar. We’ll handle everything by coordinating directly with the manufacturer of your inverter or panels to get things resolved swiftly. The benefit of choosing a company like ours is that we have the dedicated team and resources to address any concerns quickly.
If you have a grid-tied system without a battery, the system relies on DC power generated during the day. When the sun sets, the system shuts down and will resume operation the following day as sunlight is available again.
To monitor your home’s energy usage, an additional meter, often referred to as a “smart meter,” needs to be installed in the switchboard. This meter is connected to the load side of your retail meter and is usually equipped with a current transformer (CT) function. If your home has three-phase power, you will need a larger version of the meter that monitors all three phases to ensure accurate energy usage tracking. For more complex setups, such as acerage /dual living or granny flat scenarios or large sheds on properties, we have solutions to ensure accurate monitoring in the best possible configuration.
The government offers incentives to help with the cost of purchasing and installing new solar systems, including a rebate that reduces the price of the system. Additionally, with the new Federal Battery Rebate, you can further reduce the overall cost of a solar + battery system. These rebates not only help offset the cost of the system itself but also support the purchase of the power you don’t use during the day, allowing you to store excess energy for later use.
We offer a 10-year warranty on all workmanship, ensuring that your solar system is installed to the highest standards for long-lasting performance.
Solar inverters typically come with a 10-year warranty, ensuring reliable performance and peace of mind for your solar system.
Solar panels generally come with a minimum 25-year product warranty and a 30-year performance guarantee, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.
Unfortunately, no. A grid-tied inverter is designed to shut down during a power outage for safety reasons, as it needs to regulate the power being sent to the house. This is usually done through the inverter and a battery system, ensuring energy is stored and available when needed. However, if you add a battery to your system, it will allow you to continue using your solar energy even during an outage, providing you with a more future-proof solution.
